Germicidal ultraviolet light can quickly, safely and efficiently destroy germs and viruses, including COVID-19.
Also known as UV-C, GUV or UVGI, short wavelength ultraviolet light is very effective in indoor settings against airborne viruses, with a range of solutions to continuously disinfect the air in indoor environments, even while they are occupied and in-use.
Used for decades to ensure clean air in laboratories, food handling facilities and hospitals around the world, UV-C air disinfection systems are recognised as an effective, safe and reliable method of infection control.
Health authorities around the world now recognise that COVID-19 is primarily spread through airborne microdroplets or aerosols. Studies have shown that, in the right conditions, these can linger in the air for up to 16 hours and travel up to eight metres from an infected person. Without ventilation or other interventions, viral loads in an occupied interior environment can build, raising the risk of transmission further.
In most interior environments where adequate ventilation can’t be guaranteed or where ventilation would reduce indoor temperatures to unacceptable or more infectious levels, properly engineered UV-C air disinfection is the best solution to reducing viral infection risk.
There are three main types of UV-C air disinfection systems. Contact our expert team to discuss further which products are best for you.
Upper Room Emitters
Passive upper-room emitters are UV-C lights which are mounted above head height and angled to shine upwards away from a room’s occupants. These systems disinfect the warmer air which rises to the ceiling, including air which has been recently exhaled by people in the room.
The WR is one of the best performing passive upper room UV-C emitters. This is a highly validated passive unit which uses the rooms natural convection to disinfect air. This system can operate 24 hours a day, even while a room is occupied, provided that it has been installed correctly. This device ensures that the air is constantly being disinfected by germicidal ultra-violet light.
These units are ideal for proximity areas that do not have mechanical ventilation and have low occupancy. As well as being very cost effective, these units are incredibly easy to install and maintain.
Active Air Disinfection
Active upper room emitters are wall or ceiling mounted units which use fans to draw air into the unit where UV-C filaments disinfect the air as it passes through. These devices circulate the air to disinfect airborne particles and microdroplets in indoor environments of any size. Our active air disinfection products include our popular LSK model and the heavy-duty UVR-4K.
LSK – This unit was originally engineered for sensitive Swiss Government facilities and we are pleased to be able to introduce this to the market. The LSK Active air disinfection unit provides significant air disinfection rates against all known viruses and bacteria, including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). This is known as an active air treatment because of its highly efficient fan unit which draws air from all parts of the room. This unit is best used in medium sized areas with a limited air flow as wellbeing particularly effective in corridors which post a large infection risk. As with all of our air disinfection systems, they can and should be used 24 hours a day to ensure the highest level of consistent clean air.
UVR-4K – One of our most popular industrial units used worldwide. These active units are designed for large indoor environments such as food factories, sports and concert venues with high occupancy levels. Due to the impressive fan power, these units draw in air and disinfect it at an astounding rate. The high output UV-C filaments can deliver extremely high levels of disinfection on all known microorganisms. As with all of our systems they are ready for use immediately after install. Externally validated and peer reviewed, the UVR-4K is the best of its kind.
