RETRO-INSTALLATION: Buildings, Boats, Trains & Planes
Our main activity is designing and retrofitting UV-C sterilisation equipment for existing facilities across all sectors and transport in both the private and public sectors to deal with today’s coronavirus pandemic but also future proof them from what may come next in the years to come.
Current Covid-Secure guidelines were published around the world in the Spring of 2020 and most have rightly followed but these were issued months before the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced in July 2020 that Covid-19 is also an airborne hazard. The Guidance on Covid-Secure environments has not been formally updated by Governments as yet to deal with this airborne infection risk, despite more and more evidence that this is indeed, a deadly transmission mechanism and social distancing and masks are not enough, eg the Centre for Infectious Diseases who investigated the local spike in Germany arising from a Food Factory where the chilled humid air allowed the virus to travel 8 metres, infecting 1500 workers who then went and infected the communities that they live in. The environment and blowing the contaminated air around the rooms accelerated the infection.
All social distancing is going to be helpful along with good management techniques in the workplace but does not deal with infection transmission mechanisms as effectively as could be reasonably practicable to create a much healthier & safer environment to enable people to go about their day more confidently and assured.
The learned Scientific & Engineering communities and Institutions have made widespread recommendations to improve ventilation and in particular, to install UPPER ROOM UV-C and/or IN-DUCT UV-C in the building or transport air systems ie into the HVAC or AHU’s. (The limitations of so called air-purifiers and even those of a medical grade, are well known)
PP-L to complement their world leading air treatment solutions, also have a wide range of surface sterilisation technologies and products with associated safe-guards to kill microbes on furnishing, floors and walls whilst protecting the occupants. These range from fixed ceiling or wall mounted UV devices to UV-Disinfection robots that are fully AI autonomous, with all the necessary safety features, including the world’s most powerful UV-D robot which treats an area x10 fold more than others in the market.
PP-L design bespoke safe-sterilisation solutions for your unique environment and risk requirements; we specify the correct and efficient blend of products that arise from those microbiological engineering models for your facility; we can undertake the installation; and maintenance; or we can work with your Facilities Management Companies or Framework Contractors to help you protect your workforce, visitors and customers with the correct UV-C products, correctly installed and positioned.
Making your facility safer with technologies that are able to destroy 99.99% of the microbes present in your environment costs pennies in real terms over a UV bulb’s life, and in most countries is free because it can be fully recoverable against tax as part of the usual capital allowances. It should also help to keep your insurance premiums down at sensible levels, enables you to comply with Health, Safety & Welfare Laws and Regulations and most importantly of all, protects your most important assets…..your people!
(The drop drown items below give you more detail of our solutions which are designed and specified by highly qualified, competent Scientists and Engineers)

Air Disinfection
Most developed countries impose a legal duty on building owners and employers to provide clean, uncontaminated air within their buildings. Under the current Sars-CoV-2, Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, is the air in the building or transport that you go about your day in, clean and uncontaminated? Have all reasonably practicable measures been undertaken to ensure that facilities and arrangements for your welfare are safe, without risks to health, as is legally required?
Germicidal UV-C technology is “old-tech”, successfully proven against deadly pathogens since its deployment won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1903. The use of UV-C to sterilize air is able to destroy harmful germs, including Coronaviruses, constantly, 24/7. UV-C is the only commercially available method that can safely inactivate and destroy such microbes whilst they are airborne in a room. This irradiation occurs at a sub-cell level, fusing and destroying the effectiveness of the virus’ or bacteria’s very existence, within the proteins of their RNA and DNA.
The UV-C disinfection of the air enables a wide range of very effective measures to be adopted. It can significantly reduce the number of germs in the supply and re-circulation air systems by the installation of UV-C light modules in the ducting. Also, the installation of UV-C light modules to evaporators ensures hygienic cooling fans blowing out clean air. The Coil Disinfection System uses high-output UV-C lamps in close proximity to the cooling coil and drain pan within the AHU or HVAC system to eradicate biofilm (a layer of breeding microbes) and prevent its potentially dangerous re-growth. It can be fitted to new or existing AHUs in a matter of hours and the ducting system is also cleaner as a direct result of the UVGI disinfecting the airstream.
Many eminent Scientists, Regulators, Institutions, Centres for Infectious Diseases, the World Health Organisation to name but a few, recognise that Covid-19, just as its cousins, can infect humans via airborne contamination and that the correct design and deployment of UV-C is recognised as an effective measure to reduce infection risk. Many advocate the use of Upper Room UV-C Air Sterilisation devices as an optimum solution and some scientists recommend upper room UV-C combined with HVAC/ACU in-duct filtration and in-duct UV-C modules too which is the highest level of air infection control available today. PP-L are one of the few companies internationally who can undertake for any given building use, the microbial engineering modelling, design, specification and supply of both of these types of air disinfection solutions. Which coupled with our surface sterilisation products, creates a seriously potent infection reduction solution for building owners and employers.
Knowing this proven old-tech is commercially available, is economical to buy-install-maintain, is environmentally efficient and with due note of the laws and regulations about safe working environments, clean, and uncontaminated air, is your building owner or employer doing all that is reasonably practicable?

Air Flow & Pathogen Sterilisation Modelling
The basics for all microbial engineering modelling are based on the recognised Lethal Dose of UV-C needed to inactive a certain percentage of a given type of microbe. This varies to suit the hazard but also it’s percentage of desired elimination, the contact time and UV energy needed. We have a database of over 35,000 microbes which our UV-C products have been scientifically proven to inactivate and destroy. This is essential to our unique but complex computer model that has been developed over many years with 80+ years of germicidal experience, our vast database on viruses & bacteria, various engineers, scientists and other globally renowned Institutions. We can calculate how long it would take for our UV-C irradiation products to inactive any microbe type, for any given environment, temperature, humidity, air volume, air speed, which in turn enables us to run predictive scenarios with our products or blends of products to determine the optimum configuration to kill harmful bacteria and viruses, including Coronavirus.
We are one of, if not the only, commercial UV companies that can model what a Covid-Secure environment really is in terms of the impact UV-C can have on airborne and surface infection hazards.

Surface Disinfection
The UV-C disinfection of surfaces ensures constant hygienic disinfection of surfaces including desks, chairs, computers, cabinets or whatever exist as part of your workstations. Direct UV-C will only be allowed to occur while the rooms are unoccupied by humans, making it safe and sterilized for ready for the next working day. In factories and food processing this surface disinfection will work on the surfaces of conveyor belts and rollers which can be kept permanently germ-free.
Wall and ceiling emitters are commonly used in laboratories, operating theatres, medical & dental practices, food and pharma production facilities for disinfection. PP-L are expanding those proven applications into sectors and environments that previously did not need to have pathogen protection but now do because of Covid-19 risk mitigation in “everyday life”. For example, the air in the area above the employees is disinfected continuously during the day safely via Upper Room UV devices and those in the HVAC system, then work surfaces are treated at night with the strategically located overhead UV-C lighting.
The residue-free UV-C radiation ensures the highest hygiene standards. By working with microbiologists, engineers and designers, we provide some of the world’s most potent technologies using UV-C disinfection, which ensures safe hygiene levels are maintained even during the working day. We advise you in the planning and integration of UV-C disinfection systems into your current and new assets, both as standard devices, as well as large and special systems, including any necessary fail-safe systems to protect you, your employees and your clients.

Surface Irradiation & Pathogen Sterilisation
The basics for all modelling are based on the lethal dose of UV-C needed to inactive a certain type of microbe. We have a database of over 35,000 microbes which our UV-C products have been proven to inactivate. This data is used in order to find out how long it would take for our UV-C products to inactive these microbes from certain positions in the room, whether on surfaces or airborne hazards.
Our effective modelling program allows us to create the best solutions on the market as the microbial engineering modelling technology used has been tried and tested successfully for over a decade with continual upgrades when new data or new pathogens such as Sars-CoV-2 manifest.
We find it deeply troubling that so many companies are now, because of the Covid-19 crisis, selling products to the markets from a catalogue, online. If these are real UV-C this is wrong, it is unprofessional, if not dangerous because UV-C products must be correctly and respectfully deployed so as not to cause harm themselves. They need to be deployed correctly to protect people, not harm them. How does a buyer know what products and how many are needed to deal with a given microbial hazard for a given environment, temperature, humidity, occupancy, bioload? They don’t! Unless a seller of UV products is CE or FDA approved and is also undertaking adequate assessments, design and sign off from a competent engineer or scientist then we strongly advise caution. buying ineffective products is not only a waste of money but by creating false promises of safer environments, then this could put your people at risk.

Drinking & Process Water Disinfection
The various possibilities of UV-C disinfection in water result from different designs. Flow reactors are installed in pipelines designed for certain volume flows and are particularly suitable for disinfection of cooling towers, hot and cold water systems and bore-hole abstracted water for drinking or processing.
In contrast, for hot water systems, immersion heaters, UV-C is used to combat bio-films (thick layer of microbes) and is combined with effective water treatment in the tank. If the water quality is very poor, our UV-C emitters, thanks to their non-contact design and thin treatment layers, offer water treatment for industrial process water. Our water UV-C emitters are made of the highest quality stainless steel corrosion resistant materials, are reliable and easy to integrate into systems for the safe disinfection of service and drinking water. Many are inexpensive and meet all requirements for safe water disinfection.

Wall & Ceiling Mounted UV-C Sterilisation Products
Our Wall and ceiling units traditionally were used to protect products stored in cold rooms, laboratories, food factories, clean-rooms, server rooms and warehouses. Now our wall and ceiling mounted surface sterilisation devices are now being used above furniture and high risk contamination fixtures eg hotel beds, dentists chairs and in elevators. The system is made entirely of corrosion-resistant materials, while the casing in which the electronics are housed is made of brushed stainless steel. Special tubes are available for food-safe, cold, wet and dry rooms.
Because of the open distribution UV tubes for these types of devices, they can only be used in rooms with minimal personnel frequency and UV-C-resistant materials. The power control reduces the system’s UV-C emissions to a prescribed non-critical value whenever movement is detected in the room. We can also fit timers and noise sensors to ensure maximum safety. All our fitting can be connected to BMS infrastructure.
• For night-time use with no personnel frequency
• Indoor air and surface disinfection in unoccupied spaces
• Easy to install and service
We have a number of fail-safes to ensure that any environment can be treated and yet, not present any risk any humans in the process.

Fixed and mobile UV-C products
Suit cases, Product Returns, parcels, post, stethoscopes, PPE, spectacles, hearing aids, mobile phones, goods-in, goods-out, etc. can be effectively cleaned of bacteria, viruses and germs in UV-C disinfection chambers or bespoke arrangements.
Only 2 minutes of 240 mJ/cm² UV-C is needed to be delivered within close range to destroy everything of viral and bacterial origin. Sluices or entire rooms can be equipped with UV-C to disinfect incoming or outgoing goods.
This is similar to that which can be applied to many office desktops with fixtures and fittings such as phones, chairs, desks, cabinets, computers etc.

UV-D Robots
Our range of Ultra Violet Disinfection Robots are the most powerful in the world and half the price of our competitors.
They can be used as part of a regular mobile cleaning cycle and aims at preventing and reducing the spread of infectious diseases, viruses, bacteria, and other types of harmful organic micro-organisms in the environment without such enormous deployment of chemicals and fogging machines and all of which requires significant additional labour. The robots are safe, reliable and eliminates human error. Furthermore, it is user friendly and is designed to be operated by every-day cleaning staff because they are AI driven.
Our robotic philosophy is centred around integrating proven UV-C germicidal industrial solutions for the cleaning of surfaces with new advanced robot technologies. All of our robots are facility mapped from the outset, possess numerous fail-safes to obviate being in operation at the same time that a human is in the same space and also, have movement or noise sensors and LIDAR to go about their business automatically without the need for human intervention or chaperoning.
Amongst our UV-D Robots, we possess the most powerful sterilisation robot in the world which is over x 10 times more powerful than the next best UV-D robot in class, which we also sell but it is more appropriate for specific tasks.
Please remember that UV-D robots do NOT deal with AIRBORNE microbial infection risks. They are effective for SURFACE sterilisation at LOWER ROOM LEVELS, hence, should be used with a blend of other UV-C solutions and ideally, their use and effectiveness of the cleaning route be microbially modelled by qualified scientists or competent engineers.

Far-UV
Far-UV is a type of light UV light but it just has a shorter wavelength, 222nm, than conventional UV-C meaning it cannot penetrate the layers of dead skin on humans but its higher proton energy allows it to be potentially, an effective killer of microbes too.
Our Far-UV technology will be/is, theoretically, able to be used around humans and animals and is potentially ideal for use in areas with people passing through to minimise exposure time to the low risk Far UV light itself. These areas would benefit massively with the use of constant surface sterilisation as it would allow workers, visitors and customers to feel safe in that space.
The drawback is that whilst PP-L have global agreements in place with Far UV providers, we are not in a position to market these as part of our solutions portfolio at this stage until we have completed our beyond the laboratory stage assessments in fuller trials. We are confident that with our help, some of these products will be made available by us under our strict safety guidance, by the end Autumn 2020.

Infection Reduction: The "Hazard-Pathway-Receptor" Chain
Our products are able to drastically reduce the risk of transmission.
In the simplest analysis we are in all contamination events studying the chain of Hazard-Pathway-Receptor. Which in a current Covid-19 context means that if anyone of those elements in that chain is removed, then the risk is mitigated eg remove the Receptor (the people) hence the lock down at home to take them away from the hazards; or remove the hazard ie kill the virus in this case of Covid-19 with a vaccine, or perhaps kill it with appropriate chemicals when it is on surfaces or UV-C when it is on surfaces and/or is airborne; or finally, remove the pathway for the hazard to reach the receptor which is all of the above.
We have data on destroying 35,000 bacteria and viruses with UV. We have the scientists, engineers and Institutions, together with 4,500 scientic papers as evidence. The WHO and others in the scientific community and regulators are now waking up to this “old-tech”. We are confident when we say, at present, only UV-C can remove 2 out of 3 links of this classic infection chain so efficiently and as such, is one of the very best risk reduction mitigations that one can deploy right now technology-wise, in conjunction with responsible management processes. Once installed, it also protects for the future.

Installation
The installation of our Health tech products is extremely simple. They can be installed by a competent qualified electrician or electrical engineer and simply, are wired into an existing electrical circuit if they are to be retrofitted. However, if they are being installed as part of a new build the process is even easier, as our technology can we wired into the mains system and a dedicated circuit. We can provide fail-safes too such as movement and noise sensors. There are visual aids too about time to change bulbs. Also, fittings can be wired into BMS systems to help with any early warning requirements for maintenance.

Product Maintenance Agreements
For repair and maintenance of your assets, it is important to have a maintenance contract in place, saving you from any health, safety or financial surprises. Each facility and deployment is different and so each contract should bespoke to the occupational use too. From the condition of your current equipment to the size of your premises, each project requires competent planning, skill, resources, expertise and time. At PP-L our engineers can advise you on what options are available and which would best suit your requirements. We are flexible and can support you or your own supply chain with everything from technical support and advice, to undertaking the installation and maintenance of your fittings too.
The maintenance contract will take every detail into consideration, so that you know exactly what will be involved in the design and installation of your system as well as ongoing maintenance support including, options of extended warranties if you purchase our products and they are installed by our trained, qualified team at PP-L.

Special Projects
We will advise on every client’s needs on a case-by-case and project-by-project basis. No one Client’s needs are the same, so it is important to have an expert supplier who is flexible and who is capable of designing and guaranteeing the performance of a system or end result for your risk profile and specific operational needs.
There are few environments that UVC is not deployed in or being assessed currently. Our manufacturers and some of our team have supplied or worked with NASA, in submarines, down mines, on landmark boats and buildings, worked for giant global corporations, royalty, gaming pods, extremes of temperature and hazard. Whatever your problem or risk profile, our products for 80+ years and network have been involved with extremes of projects as well as mainstream. Please be assured of the utmost confidentiality and the sensitivity of all that we do for our clients and so, no matter how insane your idea or worry about your project, please do not hesitate to get in touch for a free, no obligation and private conversation.

Please Be Careful !
Covid-19 has been proven to transmit via the air so, would you enter a building that had not been fitted with the most effective mitigation available to deal with that airborne hazard? Now recommended by numerous world authorities in engineering & science, the solution to reduce the infection risk is the safe deployment of germicidal UV light (UV-C) in upper rooms, HVAC and AHU’s.
Our products have been proven successfully over 80 years and more experienced than any other UV solutions provider in the World. Before Covid, our products already succeeded for decades Protecting People’s Lives in highly dangerous environments to human health. We have data on 35,000 bacteria and viruses. Our products will kill 99.99% of all known pathogens, including Coronavirus. We are the only supplier who can draw upon our own laboratories, engineers and scientists to help us design and specify the optimum products specifically for your bespoke conditions and risks, to inactivate & destroy such human health hazards correctly.
Our products are at the top of the quality end of the market, used for decades in laboratories, operating theatres, food and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Our sterilisation solutions are the best, most proven in the world.
BUT…..
We are aware of all sorts of products that concern us such as so-called “air-purifiers”(great for pollen, dust but even medical grade HEPA ones won’t deal with smallest bacteria and viruses), hand-held portable UV units, standalone UV lamp units, so-called LED’s and lay-in grid ceiling lighting products which are now hitting the market at this time of Sars-CoV-2, Covid-19, many of which are not proven, are uncertified, are sold direct from a product list or online with no risk led or design assessment. These could prove to be potentially unsafe or will not deactivate or kill coronavirus or similar pathogens because they are not really, Germicidal UV-C.
Many commentators would say that any provider who is prepared to sell you UV products online or from a catalogue are potentially reckless, or negligent or endangering your health, safety and welfare.
Would you want to go into a poorly ventilated old building without germicidal UV-C or potentially worse, cheap UV products bought from a catalogue installed with no design or specification input? No! You want to go into a building that is as safe as it can be.
Our best in class solutions have been proven successfully for 80+ years. Killing pathogens is what our products do. If you have any questions, or wish to explore possibilities , please contact us, without charge or obligation………we are here to help you to get it right and to the best standards of professionalism that exist in this sphere.

Warranties
All of our products have a standard 2 year warranty, this however does not cover any damaged caused by miss use by the client or, any mechanical or chemical damage which is not in itself a result of some defect in the workmanship or materials. All of our products are ISO 9001 and 14001 certified, which indicates the quality and reliability of our products.
We recommend that the light fitting themselves are replaced every 12,000 hours in order to keep their germicidal effectiveness high enough (70% of original irradiation level) to be able to inactivate microbes efficiently at the correct Lethal Dose.
